Official Invitation to Squires Reunion

An official invitation has now been sent to all Squires whose contact details are available. Below is a copy of the email sent by organiser Stu Berry. (Please note the database with all names and email addresses is no longer available for downloading. This is to protect your privacy and prevent any random sods from accessing this valuable info. Should you need a copy of the database for any reason, please contact Stu Berry - stu@impiconceptevents.com).

Dear Fellow Squires,

It gives me great pleasure to inform you of final arrangements for the 50th Anniversary Reunion of this fine and noble institution. Many a past member has had flashbacks of delirium tremors of yore since receiving notification of the event, so much so that several Old Squires have booked air tickets and will be traveling from shores as far flung as the UK, USA, Dubai and Australia to attend. Your attendance will make it a truly memorable and splendid affair. We have tracked down three minute books penned by diligent Scriptors over the years, which detail a variety of activities dating back to the formation of the 21 Squires of Bacchus. The minute books will be on display for all to peruse.

I would like to thank Past Squires Jeremy Brink, Pete Chrsitodoulou, Scotch Macaskill, Murray Witherspoon and Andrew Walker for their efforts in helping to get a database of some 350 names together of Old Squires from 10 different countries around the world. Since the diaspora, the residential bases of some of our number are diverse, with some currently in battle in the Middle East, and others of who still frequent Hotel Thistle and cough a grog.

Past Squire Macaskill has kindly set up a web address (http://21squires.blogspot.com/) (for those of you who are not technically inclined, just click on the blue address in brackets and it will take you to the site). On this page, you can download the most recent database, as well as post comments and get some banter going (blogging would be the jargon term).

Right…down to the details of the reunion itself. It will take place on the 18th October 2008 at The Victoria Country Club in Pietermaritzburg, with the evening function kicking off at 7pm. We have booked 12 four balls on the course that morning, and are trying to increase that at the moment, alternatively we’ll look at booking a few more at Maritzburg Golf Club. For the meantime though, we have 12 four balls available.

The process from here on is simple. The cost of a ticket for the function will be R250 (those members who are current Squires will be asked to contribute R150). This will cover a 3 course meal on Saturday night, wine for the tables, sound system and venue hire, as well as a small item of memorabilia. I have opened up a savings account to administer this, and would ask that those who will be attending the reunion please deposit the cost of the ticket into the following account and then send me confirmation via e-mail by the 6th October 2008.

Please use your INITIAL and SURNAME as the reference and e-mail confirmation to stu@impiconceptevents.com or alternatively fax it to +27 (0)86 517 8205.

Regarding the golf, I have a spreadsheet with bookings available for 12 four balls. These will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please e-mail me with a full four ball (4 names) or just your individual name to book a spot in the meantime. Green fees will be charged by the respective course on the day.

For those travelling from around the country and abroad, I have attached an accommodation list of PMB and the surrounding areas for your information. I trust that this will be helpful.

That’s it for now. To those of you who are still in a position to help add names and contact details to the database, please take a look at the updated version on the web page detailed above and let me know if you have any additional names to add.

Any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Stu Berry
